Don't Jeopardize Your Hearing: 4 Suggestions That Will Help Protect Your Ears

Your hearing is something that you should never take for granted. Unfortunately, your ears are an area of your body that are often overlooked. If you're not taking proper care of your ears, you could be doing irreparable harm to your hearing. Don't jeopardize your hearing. Here are four suggestions you should follow that will help protect your ears and your hearing.

Protect Your Ears from Loud Noises

Whether it's listening to music on your headphones or going to concerts, those loud noises can damage your hearing. That doesn't mean you need to give up listening to music through your headphones or stop going to concerts; however, it does mean that you'll need to take care of your ears when you participate in those activities.

When you listen to music on your headphones, try to keep the volume at, or below, the halfway mark. Take your headphones off if you experience discomfort in your ears. When you go to concerts, pay attention to your ears. If they start ringing, they've been exposed to the loud music for too long. Bring along a couple of cotton balls. When your ears start ringing, place a bit of the cotton in your ears. You'll still be able to hear the music, but your ears will be protected from the loud noise.

Keep Your Ears Dry

If you dry your ears thoroughly after bathing, you're doing a good job of protecting your ears. However, bath water isn't the only moisture that can cause damage to your ears. Excess sweat, rain water, and even swimming pool water can all cause damage to your ears, especially if your ears stay wet for an extended period of time. When you feel moisture building up in your ears, use a clean towel to carefully dry them. Avoid sticking anything inside your ear canals though. You could damage your ear drums.

Get Ear Pain Checked Out

If you're experiencing ear pain, you need to have it checked out as soon as possible. Ear pain can be a sign of infection, which if left untreated can lead to hearing loss. People who smoke, suffer from seasonal allergies, or have an upper-respiratory infection are more likely to develop an ear infection.

Have Your Hearing Tested

If you haven't had your hearing tested in a while, you should schedule an appointment to have that done. If your doctor discovers that you're suffering from hearing loss, you may need to be fitted for hearing aids. You can talk to a company like Cape May County Hearing Aid Dispensary for more information on hearing aids. You should also talk to your doctor about other ways to prevent further hearing loss.

About Me

Breast Cancer Treatment Preparation: The Supply Lowdown

When my mother was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer, she had to undergo a mastectomy quickly. We weren't prepared at all for her recovery, and it meant some last-minute scrambling to get the supplies that we needed. Since we didn't have much time to plan, it was challenging to determine exactly what we had to have, and we ended up buying things we didn't really need. I took my experience and put all of it into this site. I hope that my experience and information helps you to prepare for your or your loved one's upcoming surgery and breast cancer treatment.
